Two members of the presidium of the Coordination Council for Power Transfer of the Belarusian opposition, Olga Kovalkova and Sergey Dylevsky, were detained by the police. “Olga Kovalkova and Sergey Dylevsky were detained by the special purpose militia unit and taken away somewhere in a paddy wagon,” the television channel Belsat reported.

The press service of the Coordination Council confirmed this information to Interfax news agency. It is noted that Kovalkova and Dylevsky were accused of trying to organize an unauthorized rally at the Minsk Tractor Works. The representatives of the Council clarified that the detainees are likely to be fined. No criminal proceedings were initiated against them. “We are talking about the administrative procedure,” they explained.

The Coordinating Council for Power Transfer is a body of the Belarusian opposition. Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who was the main rival of the current President Alexander Lukashenko in the election, announced the creation of the Council on August 14. It may include up to 70 people; 7 of them form the presidium.
