In Belarus, a Criminal Case against 231 people Was Opened after Sunday Rally
OREANDA-NEWS. In Minsk, the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on the violation of public order as a result of mass actions on November 1. This was reported by the press service of the agency.
The case was initiated under Part 1 of Article 342 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order, or active participation in them). “On November 1 of this year, unauthorized mass events took place in the capital, during which several hundred citizens were detained for grossly violating public order,” the statement reads.
Investigators considered the actions of the demonstrators to be a clear “disobedience to the demands of the authorities,” which entailed disruption of the work of transport and enterprises. In addition, the defendants in the case are accused of damaging the city infrastructure and the car of the internal affairs bodies. 231 people are suspects, who have already been questioned. The Criminal Code provides for punishment for them in the form of a fine, arrest, or restriction of freedom for up to 3 years, or imprisonment for the same period.
