Hungary and Poland Blocked the Draft of the Seven-Year EU Budget
OREANDA-NEWS. The Hungarian and Polish authorities have vetoed the new draft budget of the European Union for 2021–2027. This was reported on November 16 by the agency La Libre, citing sources in the association.
The reason for blocking the project by these countries was the inclusion in it of the principle of the rule of law, which is the independence of justice, as well as the states’ respect for human rights. At the same time, adherence to the rule of law should become a decisive criterion for the distribution of budgetary expenditures among community members.
Budapest and Warsaw opposed plans to distribute the EU budget depending on the state’s compliance with the rule of law, since the parties had disagreements with Brussels on the assessment of legal norms. So, in Poland, the introduction of such a principle is considered as interference in the internal affairs of countries.
According to the agency’s source, vetoing the EU draft budget may lead to a serious political crisis.
