Human Rights Activists Reported of the Detention of More than 70 People during Recent Protests in Minsk
OREANDA-NEWS. More than 70 people were detained by law enforcement officers on September 1 in Minsk during unauthorized protests. This was reported by the human rights center Viasna, not registered by the Belarusian authorities. As reported on the website of the center, there are 75 persons, including journalists, in the list of those detained in the Belarusian capital. It is known that some of the detainees were released from the militia stations.
On Tuesday morning, students from a number of Belarusian colleges and universities went to protest actions. Law enforcement agencies did not interfere with their march through the streets of Minsk, but monitored the maintenance of order. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus reported of several arrests of participants in illegal actions. In the afternoon, several dozen protesters broke through the militia cordon on Independence Avenue next to the building of the State Security Committee. About ten people were detained on the way to Independence Square.
