Human Rights Activists Reported of the Detention of More than 200 Protesters in Belarus
OREANDA-NEWS. About 225 people were detained at the protest actions that took place on October 4 in Minsk and other Belarusian cities. This was reported on the website of the human rights center Viasna.
Protests were held in support of political prisoners. According to estimates of reporters, the number of participants exceeded 100 thousand. Among the detainees there are journalists of Belarusian media. There is a Russian citizen among them.
Earlier it was reported that 49 people were detained during the protests in Belarus. The largest number was in Minsk, where 35 people were arrested. 4 people were detained in Vitsebsk, 4 in Brest, and 3 in Grodno. 2 people were arrested in Mogilev, and 2 in Gomel.
Local media reported that near the Sports Palace on Pobediteley Avenue in Minsk, security forces used water cannons to disperse the demonstrators.
