OREANDA-NEWS. Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, stated that geopolitical tensions reached their highest level in the XXI century.

“The New Year has begun with our world in turmoil. Geopolitical tensions are at their highest level this century,” he told reporters after killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani and Iran’s termination of its obligations under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

In his statement, Guterres did not mention either Iran or the United States, but at the same time, the UN Secretary-General stressed that global instability is increasing and even nuclear disarmament can be considered as something quite natural. The politician added that he is watching the escalation of tension and contacts with world’s leaders.
