French Policemen Staged a Protest on Champs-Elysees
OREANDA-NEWS. French police protested in a number of cities against a ban on methods of asphyxiation. The restriction was imposed by the government in response to a public protest because of the death of Afro-American George Floyd in the United States, and the alleged brutality of police in France.
In Paris, the rally was held on the Avenue des Champs Elysees. On June 12, police unions parked dozens of cars at the foot of the Arc de Triomphe before driving through Champs-Elysees. One van was carrying a poster “No police, no peace.” On the other, graphic images of injuries of police officers who were assaulted in the line of duty were placed with the words: “Who kills whom?”
Protests followed the meeting of police unions with Minister of the Interior of France, Christophe Castaner. The unions’ representatives told him that asphyxiation methods save lives, and the officers should have them at their disposal until a suitable alternative is found. “The police are not responsible for all the evils of society,” Secretary General of the National Police Alliance, Fabien Vanhemelryck, stressed.
