OREANDA-NEWS  The US Department of Defense has launched the next phase of modernization of the missile defense system covering the continental part of the country. Within the framework of this project, the development of the next generation anti-missile Next-Generation Interceptor (NGI) is being carried out. The US military claims that it will be able to destroy any intercontinental ballistic targets, PolitRussia reports.

According to NI analysts, work on the new missile defense system will be completed no earlier than 2028 so the Pentagon will be forced to maintain the combat readiness of the interceptors which are currently in service with the American army. Now this task is performed by the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) strategic missile defense complex. It is capable of intercepting ICBMs in outer space.

“Over the years, the Pentagon has been modernizing its GMD missile defense arsenal as nuclear threats become more pressing”, - the publication said.

Earlier, the retired US Air Force Colonel Mark Ganzinger spoke about why Washington and NATO will be defeated in the event of a war with Russia and China. According to him, the United States and the Alliance countries simply do not have enough physical strength and weapons to confront Moscow and Beijing, reports Utro.ru.
