OREANDA-NEWS. The foreign ministers of the countries of the European Union agreed on a common position of the community on the introduction of sanctions against President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko if the situation in the republic does not improve.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas suggested discussing new sanctions against Belarus and blacklisting Lukashenko.

On October 12, the EU Council announced its readiness to introduce new restrictive measures against institutions and high-ranking officials, including Lukashenko, the EU Council informed in a statement. The timing of the final decision has not been specified.

In early October, the leaders of the EU countries at a summit in Brussels agreed on sanctions against the Republic of Belarus. About 40 officials were included in the blacklist, but President Lukashenko was not mentioned.
