EU Deputies Demand to Freeze the Assets of Russians Involved in the Investigation of Navalny Case
OREANDA-NEWS. A group of deputies of the European Parliament has proposed to freeze the European accounts of Russian participants in the investigations on the situation with opposition leader Aleksey Navalny, which should be regarded as poisoning. This is stated in the published draft resolution on relations with Russia, the vote on which will take place at the session of the legislative body on September 17.
“The European Parliament… demands that the EU establishes as soon as possible a list of ambitious restrictive measures vis-a-vis Russia and strengthens its existing sanctions against Russia; urges the deployment of such sanctions mechanisms as would allow for the collection and freezing of the European assets of corrupt individuals in accordance with the findings of Alexei Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation,” the document reads.
European parliamentarians also propose to immediately start an international investigation into the incident with Navalny with the participation of the European Union and its allies, the United Nations, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the Council of Europe.
