OREANDA-NEWS. The Council of the European Union has officially approved a decision to conclude an agreement with Great Britain on the country’s withdrawal from the international organization.

The day before, on January 29, the Brexit agreement was endorsed by the European Parliament. 621 deputies voted for the adoption of the document, 49 voted against.

According to the press service of the Council of the EU, the agreement will enter into force at midnight on January 31 Central European time. From this moment, the United Kingdom will officially cease to be considered a member of the European Union.

Until the end of 2020, a transitional period will last, during which the EU and Great Britain will hold negotiations on further relations.
