Denys Shmygal Is Appointed as a New Prime Minister of Ukraine
OREANDA-NEWS. The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine at an extraordinary meeting appointed Denys Shmygal as a head of country’s government. The candidacy was introduced by President Volodymyr Zelensky. 291 parliamentarians voted for this decision with the required minimum of 226 votes.
New prime minister will have to propose for consideration by the national parliament the personal composition of the cabinet. The candidates for the posts of minister of foreign affairs and minister of defense are proposed by the president.
Denys Shmygal was born in 1975 in Lviv. From August 2019 to February 2020, he was a Chairman of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Administration. Since February 4, he worked as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
Among the priorities of the new government, Shmygal mentioned the settlement of the conflict on the territory of Donbass and a reform on decentralization of the country.
