CNN Considers the USA to Be the “Biggest Loser” in Connection with the Talks between Putin and Erdogan
OREANDA-NEWS. The publication on the website of the American television channel CNN says that the United States became the “biggest loser” in the political arena because of the conclusion of a memorandum on Syria by the presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
According to the authors of the article, from the document it is possible to discover an unstated conclusion that the “Americans do not have a place in shaping the future of Syria,” and “Putin and Erdogan have emerged as the main geopolitical power brokers in the region.” It is said that the leaders of the two countries are implementing the plan, which does not involve redrawing international borders, but counteracts separatist movements, “something both countries have faced”.
“Putin said Russia and Turkey had agreed to uphold “sovereignty and territorial integrity” of Syria, something he can advertise as a foreign-policy success,” CNN writes.
At the same time, it was Moscow that contributed to the beginning of the dialogue between Ankara and official Damascus, which is, as CNN believes, “another plus for Putin.”
“The biggest geopolitical loser in this deal is Washington. The rapid exit of US forces that left the Kurds exposed was a gift to Putin […] Tuesday’s deal added to the humiliation. It was Sergei Shoigu, the Russian defense minister, who effectively declared that it was time for the Americans to leave Syria. […] The Americans, Shoigu suggested on Tuesday evening, had “one hour and 31 minutes left” to get out of Syria,” the authors of the publication concluded.
