China Demands from the United States to Close the Consulate General in Chengdu
OREANDA-NEWS. The Chinese authorities have demanded that the United States close the Consulate General in the city of Chengdu (Sichuan Province).
This is declared in a statement issued on July 24 by the Foreign Ministry of China. It is clarified that Beijing notified the US Embassy of its decision to revoke the license of the American consulate to establish and operate. The Ministry also demanded that the mission terminate all activities and events.
The message emphasizes that on July 21, the USA unilaterally undertook a provocation, sharply demanding from China to close the Consulate General in the city of Houston (Texas State). According to Chinese diplomats, this step is a serious violation of international law, key principles of international relations and the consular agreement between Beijing and Washington, which caused serious damage to the relations of the two countries.
