Bolton Agrees to Testify in Congress on Trump’s Impeachment
OREANDA-NEWS. John Bolton, the former National Security Advisor of the United States under Donald Trump’s administration, posted on his website a statement expressing his willingness to testify to the US Senate in the impeachment process of the American leader if he receives a subpoena.
“…Since my testimony is once again at issue, I have had to resolve the serious competing issues as best I could, based on careful consideration and study. I have concluded that, if the Senate issues a subpoena for my testimony, I am prepared to testify,” the politician stated.
Bolton also explained his failure to appear in Congress in late October. According to him, he was waiting for the decision of the court considering the case of former Deputy Security Advisor, Charles Kupperman, who was also called to the Senate. Since the White House forbade its former employees to testify to Congress, the court had to decide whether the legislature had the prerogative in this matter. “I publicly resolved to be guided by the outcome of Dr. Kupperman;s case. […] The House committee went so far as to withdraw its subpoena to Dr. Kupperman in a deliberate attempt to moot the case and deprive the court of jurisdiction. Judge Richard Leon… held Dr. Kupperman’s case to be moot,” Bolton explained.
