Belarusian President Rejected Additional Conditions for Obtaining Loans from the IMF
OREANDA-NEWS. For Belarus, additional conditions imposed on it with external lending that are not related to the financial part are unacceptable. This was stated by President of the republic Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting on measures to support the real sector of the economy by the banking system.
During the conversation, the politician asked how the issue of providing Minsk with 940 million US dollars of so-called quick financing was being resolved. At the same time, he noted that there are requirements to act with a coronavirus epidemic following the example of Italy. According to him, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) continues to demand imposing quarantine and curfew in Belarus. “We have our own country and our own situation,” the President said. “We will not dance to anyone’s tune,” Lukashenko added. The head of state also noted that the World Bank became interested in the experience of Belarus in the fight against COVID-19 and expressed desire to finance the country ten times more than previously proposed.
