Belarusian Opposition Wants to Get 4 Billion Dollars from Europe
OREANDA-NEWS. The Belarusian opposition expects to receive up to 4 billion US dollars from the European Union if the government changes in the republic and takes the path of democratization. This was stated by a member of the Presidium of the Coordination Council for Power Transfer, Pavel Latushko.
The politician said that it is necessary to invest in the economy of Belarus “not these 1.5 billion dollars that the eastern country has offered,” meaning the proposal from Russia, but at least 3–4 billion dollars to stabilize the situation. Latushko believes that Belarus needs to restructure its debts, which affect its economy negatively; in addition, long-term loans are needed for simultaneous carrying out reforms in the country.
On September 14, Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting in Sochi with his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko announced that Moscow would provide Minsk with a state loan of 1.5 billion dollars.
