OREANDA-NEWS. On July 27, former Deputy Secretary of State of the Security Council of Belarus, Andrey Vtyurin, was sentenced to 12 years in prison in a bribery case.

“Andrey Vtyurin… was found guilty of accepting a bribe of 192,000 dollars… he was deprived of the rank of colonel, 192,000 dollars will be confiscated,” the court's verdict reads. The defendant did not admit his guilt in accepting a bribe and instigating a bribe.

Vtyurin worked in the Security Council of Belarus for about 20 years, in 2007–2014 he headed the agency.

In early March, the Supreme Court of Belarus began considering a case against 16 individuals, including Vtyurin, on the facts of receiving and giving bribes in the course of delivering telecommunications equipment to the republic.

In December of 2019, the State Security Committee of Belarus completed a corruption case on the supply of telecommunications equipment. During the investigation, more than 1.65 million US dollars, 62 thousand euros, over 1 kilogram of gold were seized from bribe takers.
