Austria Declared Russian Diplomat Persona Non Grata
OREANDA-NEWS. Austria decided to expel one of the Russian diplomats. According to the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the reason for this decision was the fact that his behavioor was contrary the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
Name of a diplomat was not mentioned. According to the newspaper Kronen Zeitung, for the first time in the history of Austria, a Russian diplomat was recognized as persona non grata. He must leave the country by September 1.
It is known that the diplomat is suspected of many years of industrial espionage in favour of Russia in a high-tech Austrian company. He was allegedly assisted in this by an Austrian citizen, who reported on the activities of the diplomat; during court proceeding the Austrian called him a supervisor. According to the newspaper publication, the Russian refused to testify because of diplomatic immunity.
