Turkmenistan and Tajikistan to Intensify Economic Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. June 22, 2012. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who was on a working visit to the Federative Republic of Brazil to participate in the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, had a meeting with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon.
Calling for intensification of trade and economic cooperation built on a long-term basis, the sides underlined the important role of the Turkmenistan-Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission, which had significantly intensified its activities in recent years, in this process. The talks also focused on energy and transport cooperation given the geographical location and the transport transit potential of the two states. Mentioning humanitarian cooperation as a priority area of bilateral relations, the sides called for the further intensification of mutually beneficial contacts in this sphere.
President Emomali Rakhmon expressed his support for the Turkmen leader’s constructive initiatives put forward from the rostrum of the UN for achieving global peace and security and facilitating sustainable development and positive cooperation on regional and global scale.
President Gurbanguly of Turkmenistan Berdimuhamedov invited President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon to pay a visit to Turkmenistan at any convenient time. The invitation was accepted with gratitude.
