No Changes in Electoral Laws Ahead of Parliamentary Elections
OREANDA-NEWS. October 20, 2011. The Belarusian Parliament of the current convocation is not planning to make additions or amendments to the existing electoral legislation, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Andreichenko told reporters in Gomel where he is now on a working trip. Firstly, the Parliament has recently introduced major additions and changes to the electoral code of Belarus. “Secondly, if less than a year is left before the election, no legislative changes are generally made,” said Vladimir Andreichenko. Therefore, the parliamentary elections will be held according to the updated code of 2010.
This code, according to the Chairman of the House of Representatives, incorporates many changes that were recommended by the OSCE and the OSCE/ODIHR. Almost 90% of proposals were taken account of. As regards the number of deputies and constituencies, they will remain the same - 110 deputies of the House of Representatives. “Everything else is in normal operating mode. We do not have any emergency. The Parliament, the House of Representatives operate normally,” Vladimir Andreichenko said. This, according to him, is evidenced by the growth of the economy of Belarus, GDP growth. “Indeed, there have been some unpleasant moments, but you see what is happening in Europe and the Americas. If we analyze, only those countries that have natural resources or high technology are doing well today.
Perhaps also those who have well developed tourism industry, natural conditions, infrastructure, and well developed banking system or offshore. We have to deal with everything on our own. Therefore, we will move in the chosen direction, "said the speaker. The election will be held according to the code of 2010. Some changes will be probably made ahead of the next election, summarized Vladimir Andreichenko.
