OREANDA-NEWS. September 1, 2011. In connection with the processes occurring in Libya the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is authorized to declare the following.

Our country has established and maintained diplomatic relations with Libya since September 4, 1955, and never broke them off, regardless of which government was in power in Tripoli.

The Russian Federation recognizes the National Transitional Council of Libya as the ruling authority and notes the program of reforms announced by it, which envisions developing a new constitution, holding general elections and forming a government.

We presume that the contracts previously concluded by the Russian Federation and Libya, and the other mutual obligations of the parties continue in effect in relations between the two states and will be carried out in good faith.
