Meeting of Turkmenistan-Iran Intergovernmental Commission
OREANDA-NEWS. July 21, 2011. A regular meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission for economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Iran was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. A high-level delegation of the neighbouring country led by Ali Akbar Salehi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran had arrived in the Turkmen capital to participate in the forum.
Focusing on the very fruitful character of the intergovernmental dialogue, the meeting participants emphasized that through the efforts of the leaders of the neighbouring states, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, long-term cooperation between the two brotherly nations bound with cultural and historical affinities had been brought to a qualitatively new level today.
The meeting participants expressed belief that the specific steps under discussion and to be taken to foster mutually advantageous partnerships, including the Turkmen-Iranian forum held in Ashgabat on that day, would directly contribute to expanding interstate trade and economic cooperation developed dynamically in the modern period. This was vividly evidenced by the steady growth of foreign trade between Turkmenistan and Iran that played an important role ensuring in stable and sustainable development of the two friendly countries.
In particular, the in-depth analysis on the prospects for intensifying mutually advantageous partnerships in such spheres of critical importance for both countries as the oil and gas, power and water industries, the transport and communications sectors and enhancing trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian contacts was conducted during the meeting, which was expected to result in signing the protocol.
Focusing on the important role of regular political consultations in identifying and adjusting key vectors of the joint work, the meeting participants expressed belief that the fruitful dialogue between the two neighbouring states and brotherly peoples, who had centuries-old spiritual, historical and cultural roots, would be successfully promoted.
