Turkmenistan and UN Promote Dialogue of Gender Policy Issues
OREANDA-NEWS. June 06, 2011. An overview seminar organized by the Turkmen Institute for Democracy and Human Rights under the President of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) was conducted in the framework of the joint project “Strengthening the System and Mechanisms to Protect Gender Equality and Reproductive Rights” in Ashgabat.
The seminar brought together the members of the Interagency Commission for Monitoring Implementation of the International Human Rights Commitments of Turkmenistan. An expert of the UNFPA Eastern Europe and Central Asia Regional Office for Human Rights and Gender Equality was invited to the seminar as an international consultant.
The seminar participants highly evaluated the achievements gained in this sphere by Turkmenistan, which is a party to many UN conventions, including the convention protecting the rights of women and stands steadfast to international norms and commitments. Our country actively cooperates with a number of the authoritative international organisations, including the UN Population Funds on these issues.
The UNFPA expert presented the report on modern international practices in elaboration of institutional mechanisms for gender equality to the Interagency Commission members, who considered the possibilities to apply these practices in our country.
Expressing satisfaction with the outcomes of the meeting, the seminar participants called or further enhancement of mutually beneficial contacts in this sphere.
