OREANDA-NEWS. June 01, 2011.  The Meeting of Deputy Foreign Ministers of Central Asian states took place in the Turkmen capital. The meeting venue became the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA).

The representatives of the foreign ministries from the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (DPA) had arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the forum. The agenda focused the issues related to achievement of stability and security in the region and elaboration of optimal and mutually acceptable approaches to addressing challenges facing Central Asian states.

In his greeting remarks, Ambassador Miroslav Jenca, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia expressed belief that this meeting would facilitate a constructive exchange of views on topical aspects of regional politics and intensification of fruitful cooperation in the interests of global security and sustainable development. In this context it was noted that currently the Centre that aimed its activity at prevention of crisis situations through implementing the potential of modern preventive diplomacy, carried out the active work on monitoring and evaluation of regional problems and participated in various events on topical development in Central Asia.

The guests in their turn thanked the Turkmen side for providing an opportunity to discuss a wide range of priority issues of partnerships and expressed full support for the noble mission of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia. Focusing on the increased role of the UNRCCA, the meeting participants stated that sustainable development of Central Asia which was rich in natural resources was impossible without effective cooperation between countries of the region that was rapidly putting on a political and economic weight on the international arena in the context of modern realities. In this regard the meeting participants were unanimous that concerted efforts and elaboration of a coordinated approach by the parties would make it possible to find optimal solutions to problems facing Central Asian countries.

The prospects for expansion of fruitful cooperation, environmental and energy security issues, effective and efficient use of water resources, mitigation of the impact of external factors on regional stability, etc. were considered during the meeting.

Evaluating highly Turkmenistan’s active position on the world arena, the meeting participants focused on particular topicality of the initiatives put by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to promote a constructive dialogue built on openness, mutual confidence and respect to the interest of partner-countries that facilitate creating the most favourable climate to maintain peace and global security.

Exchanging views, the meeting participants put emphasis on the critical role of concerted efforts in developing the common concept of action of countries of the region to tackle more effectively threats and challenges of the modern world to enhance stability and sustainable development in Central Asia. In this context emphasis was put on significance of the issues put on the meeting agenda and the need to speed up partnerships with the major international organisations operating in the region, particularly the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia, which aimed its activity at facilitating wide exchange of information and experiences in this field.

In conclusion meeting participants called for continuing the fruitful dialogue aimed at giving new incentives to progressive development and enhancement of mutually advantageous international cooperation.
