Lukashenko Urges New Polish Ambassador on Fruitful Work
OREANDA-NEWS. April 04, 2011. The work of the new Polish Ambassador in Belarus should not become a waste of time, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko told the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to the Republic of Belarus Leszek Szerepka on 4 April.
According to Alexander Lukashenko, the new Polish Ambassador is a very experienced politician with extensive knowledge of the former Soviet republics.
“Your mission here should not be a waste of your time. All politicians in Poland know Belarus full well, understand the processing going on in Belarus,” Alexander Lukashenko said. He called Leszek Szerepka a respectable person and asked him to make a positive contribution to the development of cooperation between the fraternal peoples of Belarus and Poland. “It is very important,” the President added.
The Belarusian head of state emphasized that independence and sovereignty are the major priorities of Belarus. “We have proved to be a sovereign independent state and we are determined to protect the sovereignty and independence whatever the cost. Even if we stay alone (however, you know that nobody is alone in this world), we will fight for the sovereignty and independence. If Poland and other countries understand this main thing, we will always be able to settle minor issues. We will always be able to resolve those artificial problems,” the Belarusian leader said.
Alexander Lukashenko reiterated that Belarus is not going to woo anyone: it will not side with the West against Russia, nor with Russia against the West, nor with China against America, nor with America against China. “We have this God-given land and we will live on this land,” the President said.
The Polish Ambassador, in turn, noted that the two countries have had and will always have common interests and common issues which have to be settled. “Being a diplomat I will try to find ways to promote mutually beneficial relations. We are not fighting, we are seeking to maintain links and develop the relations,” he said.
