OREANDA-NEWS. March 11, 2011. Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov met Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Store at Kaliningrad on March 7.

The Ministers discussed in detail the implementation of the 2010 highest-level arrangements on the development of Russia-Norway relations and tasks related to expanding political dialogue, promoting cooperation in trade, economy and key sectors, and cross-border regional cooperation, as well as interaction on the Spitsbergen (Svalbard) archipelago.

In the context of the Treaty on maritime delimitation and cooperation in the Barents Sea and the Arctic Ocean, the Russian side emphasized the necessity for strict practical implementation of the agreements, which are of principled importance, aimed at ensuring long-term sustainable fisheries.

Taking note of the Norwegian Presidency in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS), the sides discussed in detail concrete possibilities for intensifying the engagement of the Kaliningrad region in the CBSS cooperation, as well as issues related to regional cooperation in the Arctic.

The sides exchanged views on topical international agenda issues, including European security cooperation within the framework of the NATO-Russia Council, European AMB system, and situation in the Middle East, as well as a number of other issues.
