Heads of CSTO Member States Discussed Results of Work in 2010
OREANDA-NEWS. December 13, 2010. Heads of the CSTO member states discussed the results of work in 2010. Raising the effectiveness of crisis-response mechanisms and strengthening the security of member countries and the region in general were the main subjects of attention.
Opening the plenary session, Dmitry Medvedev stressed the important part the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force and peacekeeping contingent can play in preventing crisis situations.
The Russian President also noted the successful joint military exercises conducted in 2010, as well as operations to prevent drug trafficking, illegal immigration, and criminal use of cyberspace.
Discussions also concerned strengthening the organisation’s legal base and the opportunities for developing military technical cooperation in the member states.
The member states approved a declaration on the CSTO peacekeeping force and a declaration of the CSTO member states, and also signed a package of joint documents.
Taking part in the meeting were President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, President of Kyrgyzstan Roza Otunbayeva, and CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha.
