Turkmenistan-EU: Enhancing Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. September 28, 2010. The Europa House in Turkmenistan jointly with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized the four-day workshop “Modern Europe”. Experts of the sectoral ministries and departments, representatives of the Union of Manufacturers and Entrepreneurs, the Economists’ Union of Turkmenistan, the School of Economics and Business, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations and Magtymguly Turkmen State University participate in the seminar held in the conference hall of the President Hotel in Ashgabat.
The main goal of the workshop is to present the organisational structure and ongoing processes in the European Union. The EU international expert made presentations on the recent changes occurred in the organisational structure of the European Union, the main functions of the EU institutions including the Council of Europe, the European Parliament, the Council of Ministers, the European Commission, the European Court of Justice and the European Central Bank and the strategy for developing EU cooperation with Central Asian countries, in particular with Turkmenistan.
The international expert noted that today Turkmenistan had the profound potential in a wide spectrum of fields. Therefore, the European Union was keenly interested in expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with the Turkmen state, which played a key role in the Central Asian region. Turkmenistan’s huge resource potential made it attractive for the European Union as a very promising partner in various fields, including in the energy sector. Moreover, this interest was conditioned by the political stability of the country, Turkmenistan’s reputation as a dependable and responsible partner.
Workshop participants considered the great prospects for Turkmenistan-EU cooperation in exchanging experiences and attracting latest technologies in the basic sectors of Turkmen economy.
The workshop will be held through September 30.
