Dmitry Medvedev Greeted Delegates of IAEA 54th General Conference
OREANDA-NEWS. September 20, 2010. Dmitry Medvedev sent his greetings to delegates of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 54th General Conference.
The message reads, in part:
“Proposed at the UN Millennium Summit in 2000, the Russian INPRO initiative aims to guarantee sustainable energy development for all of humanity, effectively resolve the nuclear weapons non-proliferation issue, and clean up our planet’s environment. I want to thank IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano and the Agency’s Secretariat for their constant and active support of the INPRO initiative.
The work carried out as part of this project over the last decade at national and international level has resulted in many innovative approaches and methods in nuclear energy technology. Important decisions have been taken regarding legal support for the nuclear energy infrastructure, including small- and medium-power reactors. This makes it possible for countries to have their national nuclear energy industries meet the standards of efficiency, safety and environmental protection, reduce radioactive waste, and comply with the non-proliferation regime.
Russia will continue to make a big contribution to advancing this project, which has now moved into a new stage of its implementation. We propose that the IAEA member states make maximum use of the INPRO project’s potential for developing new technology and strengthening international cooperation in peaceful nuclear energy use.”
