OREANDA-NEWS. September 15, 2010. The bilateral political consultations between foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Swiss Confederation were held the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan during the visit of the delegation led by Christian Meuwly, Head of Political Division of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.

During the meeting, which turned into a constructive discussion of key aspects of mutually beneficial cooperation intensified in the past years between the two friendly countries, the participants exchanged views on the prospects for expanding and deepening the Turkmen-Swiss dialogue.

The participants noted that this meeting would give a powerful impetus to cooperation fostered in both bilateral and multilateral formats in the framework of the international organisations, including the United Nations, between two neutral states. In this context the guests highly evaluated Turkmenistan’s foreign-policy strategy, which had earned the country the well-deserved prestige on the world arena, as well as the peacemaking initiatives put forward by the Turkmen state in conformity with its status of neutrality recognized by the world community.

Underlining the huge potential of trade and economic cooperation the government officials of the two countries discussed the ways to intensify it further. In particular, emphasis was put on the considerable excess of exports from Turkmenistan over imports from this friendly country that, in mutual opinion, was conditioned by the enormous resource potential of our country and a favourable climate for foreign investments.

A focus of the meeting was cultural and humanitarian relations. In this context the participants called for further enhancing constructive partnership in such spheres as education, health care and tourism.

In conclusion the participants expressed deep satisfaction with fast growing collaboration between Turkmenistan and Switzerland promoted through conducting political consultation between foreign ministries on a regular basis to elaborate an effective mechanism for long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation.
