Peace, Security and Development – Turkmenistan’s Strategic Choice

The briefing was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan for Turkmen and foreign journalists to present the important events of international importance in our country. It was emphasized that the world community showed keen interest in President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s initiatives and ideas put forward in the context of the preparations for the upcoming 65th session of the UN General Assembly.
Full-scale and long-term cooperation with the United Nations is a strategic choice of Turkmenistan. Building close partnership with the UN, our state views this universal international organisation as an abutment of the modern system of global collaboration. A strategic vector of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy including the development of fruitful partnership with the UN is the active participation in maintaining peace and security, and it is no mere chance, because ensuring stability is an essential factor in addressing global political, economic and social problems. In this context, Turkmenistan will aim its efforts at further promotion of the principle of the integrity of security in the UN’s decisions.
Focusing on the strategic vectors of Turkmenistan-UN close partnership during the August 13 government meeting President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan’s views that would be presented at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly reflected in a concentrated form the experience of international partnership and vision of the critical aspects of the activity of the community of nations. In the context of the activities aimed at widely presenting and studying the fundamental vectors evolving from the Turkmenistan’s priorities the International Scientific Conference entitled “Turkmenistan-United Nations: Partnership for Peace and Sustainable Development” was held on August 19. The specialists of the national ministries and departments, the heads of the diplomatic missions of foreign states accredited to Turkmenistan, foreign journalists and the representatives of the public organisations participated in the international conference.
The issues regarding expansion of relationships between Turkmenistan and other countries were considered during the enlarged working meetings held by the President of Turkmenistan last week. To fulfill the tasks set by the Turkmen leader the Ministry of Foreign Affairs works on most approaches to developing mutually beneficial cooperation on the international arena.
The information on the visits of government delegations paid on the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan and aimed at facilitating the implementation of the international component of the strategic goals of long-term social and economic development of Turkmenistan was presented during the briefing. In this regard the journalists were briefed on the visit of the Turkmen delegation to the Republic of Tatarstan and the forthcoming visits to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Republic of Korea and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Turkmenistan has started the preparations for the celebrations of the 15th anniversary of gaining the status of permanent neutrality. In this regard, it was noted that the President of Turkmenistan issued the relevant resolution. The programme of activities scheduled for December includes the International Conference entitled “Permanent Neutrality of Turkmenistan: cooperation for peace, security and development” that will focus on the experience of the status of neutrality of Turkmenistan, the place and role of foreign policy and diplomacy of our country in building international relationships and developing regional and global cooperation. A variety of cultural actions, scientific forum, exhibitions, students’ Olympiads and sports competitions will be conducted throughout the country.
