OREANDA-NEWS. July 29, 2010. The meeting addressed the preparation of a draft law on financial monitoring in Russia’s regions and municipalities, as well as the preliminary result of an audit on the efficiency of budgetary spending for the construction of a bridge in Volgograd.

In particular, the Chairman of the Audit Chamber told the President about the completion of a draft law that will become the first to regulate the activity of regional and municipal financial control agencies. The issue of enhancing the internal controls over financial activities in the municipal and regional sectors was also discussed at the meeting.

In addition, Mr Stepashin updated the President on the investigation into violations during the construction of a bridge in Volgograd. According to the Audit Chamber Chairman, the investigation uncovered serious financial irregularities. Furthermore, the audit revealed that technical documentation was not up to standards. Mr Medvedev instructed Mr Stepashin to finish the investigation jointly with the Prosecutor General’s Office.
