OREANDA-NEWS. June 17, 2010.  A telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the Republic of Korea Yu Myung-hwan took place at the Korean side’s initiative.

The parties exchanged views regarding ways to resolve the situation on the Korean Peninsula evolving after the sinking of the South Korean navy’s Cheonan corvette and the referral of the matter to the Security Council of the United Nations.

Both parties expressed their desire to work towards solving the existing problems on a politico-diplomatic plane, in the interest of strengthening peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia as a whole.
