Meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Council of Heads of State
OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2010. The summit’s agenda covered efforts to strengthen regional stability and security, joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and separatism, measures to prevent organised crime and drug trafficking, and current international issues.
The SCO leaders discussed the possibilities for combining forces to help rebuild Afghanistan and stabilise the situation in Kyrgyzstan.
The summit delegates also discussed the development of joint projects in energy, transport, telecommunications and high technology and exchanged views on humanitarian issues.
Concluding the summit, the SCO leaders approved a document setting out the procedures for admitting new members to the organization.
The heads of state also adopted a political declaration reflecting the joint approach to developing future cooperation within the SCO, and approved a number of procedural documents and reports on the organisation’s activities in 2009. Intergovernmental agreements on cooperation in agriculture and fighting crime were also signed at the summit.
The Tashkent summit handed the presidency of the SCO from Uzbekistan to Kazakhstan.
