OREANDA-NEWS. May 28, 2010. A telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Manouchehr Mottaki took place at the Russian side’s initiative.

The parties exchanged views on the major aspects of bilateral relations as well as the latest developments around the Iranian nuclear program (INP) in the context of the Tehran Declaration concluded on May 17 by Iran, Brazil and Turkey on nuclear fuel exchange and in view of the discussion now in progress at the UN Security Council on a draft sanctions resolution on Iran.

There was expressed on the Russian side the readiness to actively promote the negotiation process to resolve the situation surrounding the INP, along with emphasis on the necessity to expedite the search for mutually acceptable solutions on a political and diplomatic plane.
