Moscow Hosts “Russia’s Role in SCO” Roundtable
OREANDA-NEWS. March 24, 2010. A roundtable on the theme of “Russia’s Role in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization” took place in Moscow.
The Russian part of the SCO Youth Council had acted as the event organizer. The event was held in the format of a video conference with the participation of interactive sites of a number of Russian cities (Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Nizhny Novgorod, and Ivanovo). The roundtable opened a series of such events in accordance with the plan of the SCO Youth Council for 2009-2010.
Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexander Yakovenko attended and spoke at it. Among the participants were also K. I. Kosachev, Chairman of the State Duma International Affairs Committee; O. A. Safonov, State Secretary/Deputy Head of the Federal Drug Control Service; D. B. Kravchenko, Deputy Head of Rosmolodezh and Chairman of the SCO Youth Committee; State Duma deputies and representatives of academic circles and youth organizations. The speakers underscored the importance of developing youth cooperation within the SCO framework in order to deepen understanding among the peoples of its member states.
