OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2010. Prime Minister Vlad Filat participated in a foundation meeting of the Congress of Moldovan Local Public Authorities on 21 March, the government's press service has said.

Welcoming the participants in the meeting, Filat said that the creation of the congress would render the activity of Moldova's local public authorities more efficient.

Filat said that the government wants to establish effective partnership with the local public authorities.

"We have never wanted and neither will we want that somebody is more important and somebody else less important in our relations. Partnership relations mean cooperation under the principle of parity in the benefit of both sides," Filat said.

The prime minister called on the local public authorities to actively involve in the decentralization process.

"I would like that you participate actively in the decentralization process. On 15 March, the Inter-ministry Committee of Strategic Planning approved an action plan related to this important process for our country. You will receive this plan too and I urge you to actively involve in its implementation," the premier said.

Vlad Filat also advocated close cooperation with the local authorities in terms of management of financial resources given to Moldova by development partners.

"Next week, a Moldovan delegation will visit Brussels for a meeting of the Council of Donors for Moldova. We will try to persuade our partners to finance local projects too, in particular those related to infrastructure development. And at this point we will have to work jointly, to show full involvement and management skills," the prime minister said.

Filat urged the participants in the meeting to display more initiative in order to secure effective cooperation.

"You should not wait for the government to come to you to solve your problems. Be insistent and make your voices heard. As Moldova's prime minister, I am open for cooperation," the prime minister said.

At the end of the meeting, Vlad Filat wished the local public authorities much success and great achievements in their activities.
