OREANDA-NEWS. December 10, 2009. As per the agenda of his official visit to France, President Ilham Aliyev met with President of the Republic of France, Nicolas Sarkozy at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

French President Nicolas Sarkozy welcomed President Ilham Aliyev in front of the palace.

Then, President Ilham Aliyev and French President Nicolas Sarkozy had a meeting. An official dinner was organized on behalf of French President in honor of the President of Azerbaijan.

Successful development of political, economic, cultural, and other ties between the two countries was stressed during the meeting. French President stated that Azerbaijan is a country that had been developing in a most stable and rapidly manner, and had great perspectives. He added that France is interested in developing cooperation with Azerbaijan.

The parties discussed cooperation in economic, energy and non-oil fields and expressed assurances for expansion of cooperation in these fields.

Discussions also revolved around the regulation of Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Azerbaijani leader drew his French counterpart’s attention to Azerbaijan’s stance on the Armenian-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and briefed him on ongoing peace talks.
