OREANDA-NEWS. December 2, 2009. A meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pyotr Poroshenko took place in Athens during the OSCE Ministerial Council meeting.

The ministers discussed a number of practical issues in Russian-Ukrainian relations, stressing the importance of implementing the bilateral agreements reached during the talks of the heads of government of Russia and Ukraine in Yalta.

An exchange of views took place on the Russian initiative for concluding a European Security Treaty.

The sides positively assessed the recent consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries. Azov-Kerch problems and the conditions of the presence of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Ukraine were touched on in the context of upcoming contacts in the framework of the appropriate mechanisms.
