Russia and Japan Discussed Bilateral Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. October 14, 2009. A conversation took place between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Speaker of the House of Councilors of the Japanese Parliament Satsuki Eda, who is in Russia on an official visit.
Lavrov welcomed Eda’s visit as an important evidence of the deepening of Russian-Japanese political dialogue in line with the accords reached during the New York meeting on September 23 between President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev and Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, who headed up recently the government formed by the Democratic Party of Japan, winner of the parliamentary elections.
During the conversation, which passed in a friendly atmosphere, questions of Russian-Japanese relations, including inter-parliamentary exchanges, as well as topical international themes were discussed and the mutual resolve to reinvigorate bilateral ties in all areas was stated.
