OREANDA-NEWS. October 9, 2009. Today President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon has arrived in Turkmenistan on the two-day working visit. A new bright page will be added to the chronicle of the traditionally friendly relations between two neighbouring states, whose peoples are bound with the historical and spiritual affinities from ancient times. The profound experience of economic and cultural cooperation accumulated over centuries is the greatest heritage of the brotherly nations as well as an essential factor in fostering intergovernmental and regional cooperation at the contemporary historical stage.

A regular top level meeting, which the leaders of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan will hold two weeks later their talks in New York in the framework of the 64th session of the UN General Assembly is to catalyze implementation of the bilateral agreements aimed at intensifying mutually cooperation in the whole spectrum of fields. The regular personal contacts established between two leaders in recent years condition to a larger extent the high dynamics of development of the intergovernmental dialogue that evidences best of all the mutual willingness and readiness to intensify and expand traditional partnership.

Over the years of sovereign development Turkmenistan and Tajikistan have signed 35 international documents at the interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental levels. The reliable legal framework of bilateral collaboration contributed to accrediting the embassies in Ashgabat and Dushanbe and enhancing trade and economic relations. In January-August 2009 the Turkmen-Tajik trade turnover made up US\\$ 44.08. A major part of this amount is commodity exports of Turkmenistan.

A major part of Turkmenistan’s exports to the Republic of Tajikistan is fuel and energy, agricultural and chemical products, construction materials. From Tajikistan Turkmenistan imports household goods, food products, metal and fabricated metal products. 

According to the Ministry of Economy and Finance as of September 1, 2009, 3 enterprises with the share of the Tajik capital including the Oil Trading Sandal representative office, a branch of the research and information centre of the intergovernmental commission of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea and a branch of the enterprise of foreign economic relations of the Tajik railway are registered in territory of Turkmenistan.

Along with intensified economic cooperation the countries foster humanitarian cooperation. Today Turkmenistan, which played a particular role in establishing civil peace and national conciliation in the neighbouring country, remains committed to the traditions of centuries-old friendship and fraternity and provides very possible assistance to the brotherly people of Tajikistan.

Thus, all these measures give greater confidence that these Turkmen-Tajik top level talks will promote expanding fruitful partnership that meets the interest of two peoples.

During the meeting in Turkmenbashi town that coincides with the ceremony of putting the new facilities into operation in Avaza national tourism zone on the Caspian seashore Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon intend to discuss a wide range of the issues of further bilateral and regional cooperation.

Upon concluding the top level meeting the sides are expected to sign the documents that will secure the new priorities of intergovernmental cooperation built on the principles of mutual confidence, equality and respect to the national interests.
