PM of Latvia Met with Ambassador of UK
OREANDA-NEWS. August 03, 2009. Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia, met Richard Moon, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Latvia, during his farewell visit, reported the Official website mk.gov.lv.
The officials discussed the current economic situation in Latvia, including successful agreements of Latvia with its international lenders, which is a positive signal for the market. Another focus of the discussions was on the Baltic economic situation and topical issues of energy supplies, security and foreign policy, including latest developments in Afghanistan; both sides reaffirmed that the missions will be continued despite the tough budget situation.
The British Ambassador emphasised that it is important for both countries to cooperate with regard to the EU matters, in particular in reviewing its budget and in addressing the issues of the next financial perspective and common agriculture policy by agreeing on a common support policy in all Member States of the European Union. The Latvian Prime Minister noted that Latvia is performing considerable work on reallocation of the EU funds for promotion of growth of the national economy and employment. Currently, it is important to reach an agreement and reduce national co-financing in projects financed by the EU funds, in particular by the European Social Fund.
At the end of the meeting the Prime Minister expressed his hope that good dialogue of both countries will also be continued in the future. Valdis Dombrovskis acknowledged the personal contribution of the Ambassador of the United Kingdom in strengthening bilateral relations and his work in Latvia, in particular his participation in various charity events.
Richard Moon was the Ambassador to Latvia since 4 September 2007, and today is his last working day in Riga.
