Munich Hosts High-Level Russian-German Intergovernmental Consultations
OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2009. During their one-on-one talks Dmitry Medvedev and Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel discussed the international political agenda in detail, talked about the results of the G8 summit [in L'Aquila], and exchanged views on the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. In this context they also discussed the situation around Iran and North Korea.
At the Federal Chancellor's request the Russian President quickly briefed her on the results of the American President's visit to Moscow. Ms Merkel also gave Mr Medvedev her impressions of her trip to the United States.
The state leaders discussed bilateral economic cooperation and stressed that despite the economic crisis it is imperative that they continue to develop this cooperation.
Following the Russian-German intergovernmental consultations an intergovernmental agreement on scientific and technical cooperation and a joint declaration by Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Sergei Shmatko and Federal Minister of Economics and Technology of Germany Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg were signed.
Other signed documents include a memorandum of understanding on a project to renovate Pulkovo airport [in St Petersburg], an agreement of intent on establishing a joint venture in Russia to manufacture a new generation of locomotives, an agreement on creating an international logistics centre, the statutory and registration documents of the newly-created Russian-German power agency, and a number of interbank agreements.
