OREANDA-NEWS. July 13, 2009. The new ways and prospects for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United States of America were the focus of the talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan where the U.S. government delegation led by William J. Burns, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs had been invited.

Thanking for the heartfelt welcome the Under Secretary of State emphasized during the conversation with Vice Premier, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan R. Meredov that he was quite satisfied with the results of the first visit, particularly the talks with President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, which had been held in the sincere and constructive atmosphere.

In the context of the agreements reached during the audience with the leader of the Turkmen state the sides exchanged views on the ways to enhance Turkmen-American cooperation through harmonizing the concrete steps to diversify bilateral partnership in order to fully implement its impressive potential. The key fields of collaboration included trade and economy, fuel and energy sector, agriculture, many others. The sides focused on the necessity to strengthen traditional humanitarian cooperation, particularly in the sphere of education as a priority of Turkmenistan’s national policy. The Under Secretary of State also said that the business circles of the United States were willing to expand on the very promising, dynamically developing Turkmen market.

In conclusion the sides expressed belief that the constructive Turkmen-American dialogue based on friendship, equality and mutual respect would be successfully maintained.
