OREANDA-NEWS. June 23, 2009. During his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev held talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

After one-on-one talks between the presidents, negotiations continued with the participation of the delegations of the two countries.

Following the negotiations the presidents signed the Treaty on Strategic Partnership between Russia and Egypt, specifying the main areas of bilateral cooperation. In particular, the parties agreed to consider setting up a free trade zone between the two countries, to develop the military and military technical cooperation that they have traditionally supported, as well as promote cooperation in science, education and tourism.

The following documents were signed in the presence of the state leaders: Treaty on the Transfer of Prisoners to Serve Their Sentence in Their Home Countries, Agreement on Cooperation in the Fight Against Illegal Trafficking in Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and their Precursors, and Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation and the Ministry of State for Environmental Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Following the negotiations the two presidents gave a joint news conference.
