OREANDA-NEWS. June 09, 2009.  Dmitry Medvedev met in expanded format with Security Council members to discuss measures for dealing with threats to national security in Southern Federal District.

The meeting was attended by regional governors of the Southern Federal District.

Mr Medvedev emphasised the need to take tough measures to counter threats to national security in the North Caucasus, and instructed the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) to work out a set of organisational and operational measures to deal with terrorist activity and crime.

In addition, the President stressed the need to pursue the fight against drug trade and trafficking, the proceeds of which are used to support terrorism.
