OREANDA-NEWS. June 01, 2009.  Taking into account the recent aggravation in Pakistan of an extremely complicated situation resulting from a mass outflow from areas of active combat actions against terrorists in the northwestern part of the country of a large number of civilians (over 2 million, according to some data), and the related appeal from Islamabad to the world community for assistance, the Russian Federation has taken decision to use for aid to the temporarily displaced persons in Pakistan a part of Russia’s voluntary contribution to the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees budget to the tune of 1 million US dollars.

The Government of Russia is also considering the possibility of rendering emergency humanitarian aid to Pakistan under the auspices of the Russian Ministry for Emergencies.
