OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2009. A telephone conversation between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov and Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Avigdor Lieberman, took place at the Israeli side’s initiative.

In the conversation, central emphasis was given to the Middle East situation and the tasks in stabilizing conditions in the region and resuming the Arab-Israeli peace process on an internationally recognized basis, particularly in the light of the UN Security Council ministerial meeting on May 11, 2009.

Lavrov and Lieberman emphasized the necessity of maintaining cooperation on Middle East peace process issues.

Both sides reiterated their striving to continue a regular political dialogue.
