Russia and Israel Discussed Situation in the Middle East
OREANDA-NEWS. April 23, 2009. A telephone conversation took place on April 22 between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov, and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Israel, Avigdor Lieberman.
Matters relating to the current situation in the Middle East were substantively discussed. Sergey Lavrov informed his interlocutor of the vigorous efforts being undertaken by Russia, particularly as a permanent UN Security Council member and a participant of the Middle East Quartet of international observers, to improve the situation in the region, to prevent new exacerbations and flare-ups of violence and to resume movement along the road of negotiations in the interests of ensuring peace, security and stability for all states and peoples of the Middle East.
